Overview

Alana is a search-powered shopping platform that helps users find exactly what they want—just by asking. Whether through its app, marketplace, or integrations, Alana connects discovery directly to trusted checkout, streamlining the path from search to purchase with brand-authorized listings and zero friction.

As a UI/UX Intern, I contributed to the design and strategy behind both the core Alana product and its marketing touchpoints. I collaborated with product and marketing teams to enhance usability, strengthen branding, and ensure that the experience resonated with a Gen Z audience.

Goals

  • Improve UI consistency and usability across the Alana App, Marketplace, and marketing website

  • Align design decisions with Gen Z shopping behavior and expectations

  • Refine Alana’s visual identity and hierarchy for greater clarity and cohesion

  • Help grow product awareness through campus outreach and user feedback

Contributions

UX Research
  • Conducted informal testing and market scans to identify UI patterns familiar to Gen Z users

  • Synthesized feedback into actionable suggestions for navigation and content layout

Marketing Site Redesign
  • Designed the Alana Enabled marketing website in Wix, following brand standards while suggesting improvements to typography, layout, and scalability

  • Introduced layout optimizations that improved readability and content hierarchy

Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Worked closely with marketing and technical leads to ensure visual and messaging alignment

  • Helped introduce Alana to student communities to drive interest and gather feedback

Design Approach

The Alana Enabled marketing site was designed with clarity, trust, and guided simplicity at its core—mirroring Alana’s core product value: helping users find exactly what they want, with zero friction. The visual language is intentionally understated yet structured, allowing content to shine while reinforcing Alana’s credibility and ease of use.

  • Minimalist Structure, Maximum Clarity: A clean, grid-based layout with generous padding ensures that every section is visually digestible. Each content block has room to breathe, supporting a clear reading flow and making complex messaging feel approachable.

  • Soft Color Palette with Strategic Contrast: The use of soft green tones against a bright, off-white background evokes a sense of calm and trust, while still aligning with modern SaaS branding trends. Green boxes are used consistently for calls-to-action, highlight tiles, and team bios—creating a strong visual rhythm across the site.

  • Typography that Speaks with Authority & Ease: Type is large, accessible, and to the point—making key ideas ("Smarter shopping starts here.") unmissable. There’s a clear typographic hierarchy that guides the user from hero statements to supporting details, maintaining engagement across scroll.

  • Information Architecture that Builds Understanding: The “How It Works” section breaks down Alana’s value proposition into three simple steps, reducing cognitive load. This speaks directly to a user base (especially Gen Z) that expects quick, digestible information. Each user group—shoppers, retailers, and developers—has their own clearly defined section.

  • Human-Centered Team Page: Including real photos alongside green-highlighted bios helps humanize the brand and reflect team transparency—important for a platform that prioritizes trust-based commerce.

  • Dynamic Brand Trust Element (not shown): Though not visible in this mockup, the infinite logo marquee acts as a credibility anchor, showcasing brand partnerships and reinforcing the legitimacy of Alana’s checkout experience.

Outcome

My work helped reinforce Alana’s identity as a frictionless, brand-authorized shopping solution. The redesigned marketing site launched with a stronger visual hierarchy and improved clarity, while my design contributions to the product itself informed ongoing iterations around navigation and user flow. Through this role, I deepened my skills in systems thinking, brand-centered design, and cross-functional collaboration.
